LAS VEGAS -- Becky Hammon scored seven points in the final two minutes to lift fourth-ranked Colorado State to a 71-67 victory over UNLV on Wednesday.
The victory, the 18th for the Rams (30-1), put them in the Western Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament semifinals against Rice.Hammon finished the game with 30 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Trailing 59-46 with 6:40 left, UNLV (17-11) went on a 15-5 run over the next four minutes to tie the game 64-64 with two minutes left.
Hammon answered the UNLV run with a 3-pointer to put the Rams up for good.
Linda Froehlich paced the Rebels with 29 points. Froehlich was the WAC's leading scorer, averaging 23.3 points per game.
UNLV played the final 3:53 without Froehlich when she picked up her fifth foul trying to grab an offensive rebound.
Angie Gorton had 10 points for the Rams and Shannon Randles and Heather Haanen chipped in with eight points each.
NEW MEXICO 74, TCU 62: Miranda Sanchez scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the defending WAC Tournament champion Lobos eliminated the Horned Frogs. The 6-foot-1 sophomore, who netted 23 of her points before halftime, made 10 of 15 shots from the field -- including four 3-pointers.
With the victory, New Mexico (22-5) advances on to the semifinals. The Lady Lobos will face Southern Methodist (17-10).
