Lloyd D. Newell, the voice of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's weekly "Music and the Spoken Word," appears at Sharon Elementary in Orem where he attended school and receives the school's first "Soaring Eagle Award" with his son, McKay, 4, standing by his side. Each month, the Orem school will choose a former student or individual who is a role model for children to receive the award and speak to students. Newell attended Sharon from 1961-'68. The author of several books, Newell also has worked as a television news anchorman for CBS and CNN.
