Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away at home, April 28, 1999 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born June 22, 1918 in Elbing, East Prussia, Germany to Helene Michaelis Bierwolf and Karl Gustav Bierwolf. She married Heinrich Rueckbrodt in 1941. He served as a soldier during World War II and is missing in action. She immigrated to the United States in 1954 with her daughter, Rita Rueckbrodt, and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she worked as a seamstress for Pullman Tailors. She was a member of the German Ward when she met Janis Edwards Jirgensons, who became her second husband in August 1955.She was baptized into the LDS Church in Germany and served there as a Primary teacher. She was a member of the Winder 3rd Ward and served faithfully for many years as a visiting teacher and Relief Society member.

Herta was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She was loved by all who knew her and touched many lives by her great capacity to love and nurture those around her. She was a hard worker and spent her life serving family and friends. She loved to work in her beautiful yard every summer. She was very active and continued to work hard even during her illness. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service.

Survived by daughters: Rita R. (Peter) Liegert, Holladay, UT; Daina J. (Russell) Clark, Yardley, PA; son: Edward O., Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren: Christine Cagle, Michael Liegert, and C. Michelle Lelis, Jennifer, Daniel, Abby and Clarissa Clark, and Adam Jirgensons; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Katarina and Katheryn; sisters: Ruth Rudschuck, Germany, Elsa Benglan, Pocatello, Idaho, Elfriede (Fred) Seidel, Salt Lake City; brothers: Johannes, Salt Lake City and Max, Sunset, Utah. Preceded in death by both husbands, parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 1999 at the Winder West Stake Center,1250 East 4530 South. Family and friends may call on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and at the Stake Center from 11:45-12:45 on Monday prior to services. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
