FARMINGTON -- A strange substance found on the deck of Lagoon's water park, combined with inclement weather, led park authorities to close the beach on Memorial Day.
Park president Dave Freed said the substance was small and had employees speculating it was fecal matter dropped from pelicans. But because investigators couldn't be sure what the substance was or how much may have got into the water, Freed said authorities decided to close the water park.
"It happened right about the time the park was opening, the temperature was 60 degrees and it was overcast. Why even open?"
The water was "super" chlorinated with high powered disinfectant, paving the way for the popular water park to reopen Tuesday for business as usual.
Samplings of the material were turned over to the Davis County Health Department for testing, Freed said.
