Rebel cow swims 5 miles across fjord

OSLO, Norway (AP) -- Flode the cow apparently sensed opportunity when her owner took her and four others to a waterfront pasture in Norway.

While her barn-mates were content with the grass near Levanger, 300 miles north of Oslo, Flode made a break for it, jumping into the icy water and swimming five miles to greener pastures.Three hours later, farmer Per Gunnar Wennes received word that his cow had swum to Ekne, on the other side of the fjord.

"I suspect that there must be a touch of hippopotamus in that cow," Wennes was quoted as saying by a local newspaper.
