Sampras will play on Davis Cup team

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Pete Sampras will play on the U.S. Davis Cup team for the rest of the year, including next month's quarterfinals against Australia, the U.S. Tennis Association said.

Sampras, the world's third-ranked player, will join Jim Courier and Todd Martin on the U.S. team for the tie with Australia from July 16-18 at the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Mass.The 27-year-old Sampras didn't play in the Davis Cup last year. He has a 16-7 record in the competition, including 13-6 in singles, in five years on the U.S. team.
