Obituary: Oscar Fredrik Ekberg


Oscar Fredrik Ekberg, born August 31, 1908 in Malmo, Sweden passed away Friday June 11, 1999 at home, in Salt Lake City surrounded by his family.Migrated to the United States with his family from Sweden on June 18, 1913. Worked for Denver Rio Grande Railroad 28 years and University of Utah Accounting Department 20 years. Married Lucille Marie Pearson February 29, 1932. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death in 1964. Married Naomi Madsen Larson October 22, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. A member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions and enjoyed doing Genealogy. Member, Sons of Utah Pioneers. He and his wife Naomi enjoyed visiting numerous Temples.

Survivors include wife, Naomi; children, Doreen Tester, Arlen F. (Linda) Ekberg, Terry N. (Loraine) Ekberg, and step-daughter Suzanne Thompson, all of Salt Lake City. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a twin sister, Esther Vatsend, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hildur Elzinga; and grandson, Brett Ekberg.

Oscar took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hobbies included music, dancing and a beautiful garden.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 1999, 11 a.m. at the Cottonwood Memorial Mortuary, 4670 Highland Dr. Holladay, Utah. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday, June 15, 1999 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 7800 South 3115 East, Salt Lake City.

In lieu of flowers, it was his request that donations be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
