W. Jordan man is 'Neighbor of the Year'

WEST JORDAN -- Don't try to argue that Santo Calderon is not a first-class good neighbor -- he has a plaque to prove it.

Calderon was honored May 22 with the West Jordan "Good Neighbor of the Year Award" for 1999 during the city's annual Good Neighbor Fair.In addition to the plaque, the West Jordan man also received a T-shirt, a potted plant and a gift certificate good for dinner at a local restaurant.

Arlene Farley, a city spokeswoman, said the annual award is intended to honor a resident "who has gone the extra mile in giving unselfishly to help their neighbors."

She also indicated West Jordan's Good Neighbor Committee selects a resident to honor each year because the group believes "deeds done without expecting thanks or awards need to be recognized."
