CAVS FIRE FRATELLO: The Cleveland Cavaliers fired coach Mike Fratello, and general manager Wayne Embry stepped aside to be replaced by Jim Paxson, the team's vice president of basketball operations.
During Fratello's tenure the Cavs were 248-212, although the team disappointed fans with a style some considered boring.Under Fratello, who had one year left on his contract, the Cavs made the playoffs four of six years but failed to advance past the first round. Attendance at Gund Arena declined this past strike-shortened season as the Cavs were wracked with injuries and finished 22-28.
ALL-ROOKIE TEAM: Vince Carter of Toronto and Paul Pierce of Boston were unanimous choices on the all-rookie team selected by NBA coaches.
Also picked for the team were Sacramento's Jason Williams, Vancouver's Mike Bibby and Orlando's Matt Harpring.
Carter, the rookie of the year, and Pierce received 56 points each with Williams getting 55, Bibby 47 and Harpring 35.
Chosen for the second team were Houston's Michael Dickerson and Cuttino Mobley, Orlando's Michael Doleac, the Los Angeles Clippers' Michael Olowokandi and Golden State's Antawn Jamison.
