Drive-by shooting outside mall slightly injures man

WEST VALLEY CITY -- A man was grazed by a bullet Friday night in what police believe was a gang-related drive-by shooting outside Valley Fair Mall.

A man fired one round from a semi-automatic assault weapon from inside a blue car and hit a man wearing a red shirt and standing just outside the mall's food court, said West Valley City Police Sgt. John Pearce.Authorities said gang-related insults were yelled by people inside the car and that the color red may have been a trademark of a rival gang.

The man wearing the red shirt suffered only a minor scrape, and none of the other four people with him at the time was injured, police said. The people in the vehicle fled south after the shot was fired.
