Fireworks users get warning: Put safety first, don't start fires

PROVO -- The Provo Fire Department reminds all residents that caution should be used when using fireworks during the upcoming July 4 holiday to prevent fires in the mountains and homes in Provo.

In order to ensure a happy and safe Fourth of July, the following guidelines for fireworks safety are offered: Buy only legal fireworks from reliable fireworks vendors. Any firework which flies is not legal in Provo. Always have adult supervision when lighting fireworks. Keep a water source readily available (a garden hose or bucket).Never attempt to relight a dud. Wait 20 minutes, then soak in water until completely soaked.

Never throw or point fireworks at other people. Store fireworks in a cool, dry place. Never take fireworks into the foothills or mountains.
