At the June 15 board meeting of the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, the public was invited to comment on the proposed budget. There was extensive public comment on the $3.1 million line item that would be used to acquire easements for a pipeline that could ultimately bring water to the Salt Lake Valley. While the district's board was polite and courteous in listening to so many, so late into the evening, a summarizing comment by one board member revealed that the decision had already been made to approve the $3.1 million expenditure. He said that commitments by the district's field force with contractors and landowners were in place already, and therefore the $3.1 million budget item needed to be approved. This is no way for public officials to act.
