A recreational vehicle was upended Monday by 80 mph winds near Melvern, Kan., after heavy rains and winds ripped through northeast Kansas. Torrential rain triggered flash floods in Kansas City early in the day, trapping people in their cars and homes and inundating low-lying streets and highways. Then in a matter of hours the rain clouds moved on and the sun shone brightly as people surveyed the damage. As much as 5 inches of rain fell on parts of the city Sunday and Monday, pushing the year-to-date total to 10.5 inches above normal. No lives were lost.
