Syracuse plans a hearing July 13 on proposed condos

SYRACUSE -- The City Council has scheduled a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to consider a request to increase the housing density for a proposed condominium development at 1000 W. 2000 South.

The parcel, close to 20 acres in size, is just south of a Smith's Food and Drug. It is currently zoned for moderate-density, R-2 zoning of 3.7 units per acre, but the developers are now seeking higher-density R-3 zoning of 5.4 units per acre. The city's master plan states the land should be R-2 so the Planning Commission has recommended the city deny the higher density.
