Lyman Elvin Duncan, age 85, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed on to Paradise June 28, 1999 in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Born November 21, 1913 in Moab, Utah, son of Elvin Theodore and Bethenia Leona Johnson Duncan. An outstanding student and athlete, he was elected Student Body President of his high school. Elected County Attorney for Grand County Utah. He served his country during World War II attaining the rank of lieutenant in the US Army. An avid Scouter, Lyman served as a Boy Scout leader most of his life, and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Active in the LDS Church, he served in 3 bishoprics, as a High Councilor, and numerous outer callings. Married Marvene Heward in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 4, 1948. Graduated from the University of Utah, 1950, in Journalism. He worked as Chamber of Commerce Manager for Cloverdale, Healdsburg, and Atwater, California. He received many honors for his outstanding community service. After retirement, he worked as editor of the local newspaper.Survived by wife; three children: Elvin (Lisa) Duncan; Gary (Tera) Duncan, Marilyn (Kelly) Eddy; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Verd and Wendall Duncan; sisters, Allien Cook and Erma Lee Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 10 a.m. at the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah, where friends may call 9-9:45 a.m. Interment and Dedication of Grave will follow at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South (must turn off of 900 East) Salt Lake City, Utah at 12 Noon. Under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
