Obituary: Lela Larkin

Lela Mary Kendall Therkelsen Larkin passed away June 3, 1999 in her home.

Lela was born July 1, 1923 in Mapleton, Utah to David Donella Kendall and Caroline (Carrie) Hughes. Married Otto Fonnesbeck Therkelsen, Sr. May 18, 1941, later divorced. Married her eternal sweetheart James Fuller Larkin in the Salt Lake Temple April 16, 1976. Leaving behind children, grandchildren and friends who loved her dearly.Lela worked for Lou Dornbush Deli, Little America Motel (Coveys), Salt Lake Temple Cafeteria, Salt Lake School District School Lunch, owner and operator of Baskin & Robbins, Farrs Ice Cream, Angelos Fur, Utah Fur Dressing, and Product Development Corp. She was very involved in her church duties including Young Womens President, Beehive Teacher for many years, Relief Society music leader, singing in ward and stake choirs, sang in many solos and Easter Cantatas and performed her life dream singing the Tabernacle for the Relief Society Womens Conference. She was an avid bowler with her girls and special friends. She enjoyed going to the Peppermill with Laurine and Papa. Fantastic seamstress and all around Mom.

Survived by daughters, Laurine (Clifton) Hardman, Karla (Terry) Baum; step-sons, Kent (Pat) Larkin, Steven Larkin, Emerson (Ann) Larkin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Milburn (Callie) Kendall, Richard (Sherrie) Coad and Edward (Cindy) Coad; sisters, Betty (Doug) Parker, Shirley (Bob) Maack, Viola White and Donnetta McPhail and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law, Otto and Linda Therkelsen, Jr.; grandson, Jason Baum; brother, Bud Kendall; and former husband, Otto F. Therkelsen, Sr. and mothers and fathers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 1999, 11 a.m. at the Cannon 1st Ward, 1172 So. Glendale Drive (1450 W.). Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Monday at the ward from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Mountain View Memorial Estates.
