Obituary: Harold Eugene Shields ""Shag"" ""Gene""

MAGNA-- Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Harold E. Shields, passed away June 6, 1999 at his home in Magna, Utah at the age of 71, after courageously fighting one battle after another.

He was born August 16, 1927 in Toronto, Ohio to Amos K. and Dorthea Louise Shields. He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1945. Served in the U.S. Army as a Sargent in World War II in Germany with an honorable discharge. Married Lorraine Coon Shields on December 22, 1947. Retired from Kennecott with 47 years of service.Shag was loved by everyone and their dogs. He was known for his whistling, teasing, made-up songs and stories, and his great sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife and close companion of 52 years, Lorraine, daughter, Linda L. (Alan) Taylor, Glendale, CA, sons, Jeffrey E. (Paula) Shields, West Valley City, UT and Jerry A. (Anneli) Shields, Salt Lake City, UT, sister Shirley (Bill) Burke, West Valley City, UT, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Evelyn Shields.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 10, 1999, 12 noon, at the Lake Ridge 3rd Ward, 3151 South 7700 West. Friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, and Thursday 11-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
