The Committee for Peace in the Middle East, a group based in Salt Lake City, is sponsoring two free public events concerning United Nations sanctions against Iraq, both on Thursday, June 10.
During the first, Charles Brown of the Peace Resource Center in Bellingham, Wash., will show slides and discuss his recent visit to Iraq. He will speak during a "teach-in" starting 2 p.m. in the Cork Room, University of Utah Union Building.Also speaking in a panel discussion during the teach-in are Dee Rowland of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City; Iqbal Hassain, president of the Islamic Society of Salt Lake; and Touraj Noroozi, a scholar in Middle East area studies. At 2 p.m. organizers will show a video about the effects of the international sanctions on Iraq.
