Jack Nicklaus surprised a few folks last month when he said there was a good chance he would play in the Novell Utah Showdown at Park Meadows Country Club.
Well, Nicklaus made it official this week. He has committed to play in next week's Showdown, tournament officials announced. It will be his first competitive rounds on the course he designed 17 years ago."I'm just tickled Jack is going to play," said tournament director Bryan Naugle. "Jack Nicklaus entering makes this a true 'Field of Dreams.' It's going to be a magical moment with Jack, Arnie (Palmer) and Lee (Trevino) all playing together again. Add the names Gil Morgan and Hale Irwin to those three, and we have a very special tournament indeed."
The tournament proper will be played July 30-Aug. 1 at Park Meadows. Qualifying for four spots will be Monday at Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course, and the Iomega Pro/Celebrity Skins Game will be Tuesday at Park Meadows. Pro-ams will be played Wednesday and Thursday at Park Meadows. -- Mike Sorensen
