Yankees 21,Indians 1NEW YORK -- In their biggest victory in 46 years, the New York Yankees routed the Cleveland Indians 21-1 Saturday as Chili Davis went 5-for-6 with six RBIs.

Jorge Posada had a career-high four hits and drove in three runs, and Scott Brosius and Davis homered in the Yankees' biggest victory since routing the Washington Senators 21-1 on Aug. 12, 1953.

It was the first time New York reached 20 runs since a 21-7 rout at Kansas City on Aug. 19, 1962, and the first time the Yankees did it at home since beating Washington 22-5 on July 26, 1931.

Hideki Irabu (7-3), backed by 21 hits, won his seventh consecutive decision, taking a shutout into the seventh as New York won its fifth straight. Mark Langston (1-1) got rocked for his worst loss in 11 years.

ORIOLES 8, ANGELS 4: Cal Ripken homered twice and drove in three runs as the resurgent Baltimore Orioles beat Anaheim, extending the Angels' losing streak to a season-high nine games.

Jason Johnson (2-4) allowed two runs and four hits over seven innings, matching his longest outing of the season and winning for the first time in five starts. The Orioles have won five straight and 10 of 12, but are still nine games below .500.

RED SOX 11, TIGERS 4: Rookie Trot Nixon hit three of Boston's seven home runs and drove in a career-high five runs as the Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Nomar Garciaparra homered twice and Brian Daubach and Troy O'Leary also homered for the Red Sox, who won for just the fifth time in their last 16 games. Luis Polonia, Frank Catalanotto and Tony Clark homered for the Detroit, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

WHITE SOX 6, BLUE JAYS 5: Frank Thomas' go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning snapped Toronto's seven-game winning streak as the Chicago White Sox beat the Blue Jays.

Chicago trailed 5-3 after Toronto's Tony Batista hit his 12th homer in the sixth, but the White Sox went ahead on an RBI single by Chris Singleton off Kelvim Escobar (8-7) and Thomas' double off reliever Paul Quantrill.

TWINS 10, MARINERS 3: Corey Koskie hit his first major league grand slam and Jacque Jones also homered as the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners.

Koskie's homer came on the first pitch after Frank Rodriguez, a former Twin, came in for Seattle starter Gil Meche (1-1). Bob Wells (5-1) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of former Buzzman Mark Redman for the win.

ATHLETICS 12, ROYALS 2: Jason Giambi hit three-run home runs off Tim Byrdak in consecutive innings, and the Oakland Athletics broke a seven-game losing streak by beating the Kansas City Royals. Giambi, who hit a grand slam off Mac Suzuki on Friday night, homered in the sixth for a 6-2 lead, then made it 9-2 in the seventh. Giambi, who went 2-for-3 with 10 RBIs in his last six at-bats, raised his home run total to 21 with his third multihomer game of the season, the seventh of his career.

RANGERS 5, DEVIL RAYS 3: Lee Stevens and Ivan Rodriguez homered for the second consecutive game as the Texas Rangers won their seventh straight. Stevens, who drove in three runs, hit a two-run homer off reliever Alan Newman (1-2) to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. Rodriguez added a solo shot in the seventh.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

PIRATES 7, EXPOS 2: Abraham Nunez's two-run single in the fourth capped a three-run inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates stopped a season-high five-game losing streak with a win over the Montreal Expos. Pete Schourek (3-5) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on six hits in five innings in his first start since July 4.

PHILLIES 4, BRAVES 3: Bobby Abreu hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning and the Philadelphia Phillies sent the Atlanta Braves to their sixth loss in eight games.

MARLINS 4, BREWERS 1: Dave Berg's single and pair of doubles helped Florida produce three runs and Brian Meadows pitched six strong innings to lead the Marlins over the Milwaukee Brewers.

With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth, Berg singled home a run off Kyle Peterson (0-1) and Jorge Fabregas singled in another run off reliever Juan Roque to make it 3-1. In the eighth inning, Berg doubled and eventually scored on Luis Castillo's single to cap the scoring.

METS 2, CUBS 1: Rookie Octavio Dotel struck out nine in 7 1-3 strong innings and Robin Ventura's tiebreaking homer gave the New York Mets a victory over the Chicago Cubs. Edgardo Alfonzo went 3-for-4 and homered for the Mets, who have won four straight.

ASTROS 5, PADRES 2: Chris Holt pitched seven strong innings and Jeff Bagwell had three hits, including a run-scoring double. Holt (2-9) had won just once in his first 15 starts, including six no-decisions. He didn't allow a hit through the first four innings and carried a shutout into the six to extend his personal string of consecutive scoreless innings to 14 2-3.

CARDINALS 10, ROCKIES 2: Kent Mercker pitched six shutout innings and David Howard went 3-for-5 with three RBIs as the St. Louis Cardinals won their third straight.

J.D. Drew drove in two runs with a single and a solo home run and Alberto Castillo had three hits and two RBIs to back Mercker (4-4). Mercker improved to 8-2 lifetime against Colorado as he struck out three, walked three and allowed seven hits.

REDS 7, GIANTS 6: Dmitri Young hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the ninth inning off closer Robb Nen and the Cincinnati Reds rallied past the San Francisco Giants.

DIAMONDBACKS 3, DODGERS 0: Brian Anderson threw eight shutout innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks won their fifth in a row with a victory over the fading Los Angeles Dodgers to move back into first place in the NL West.
