Liane Stillman wants you to listen to this plea.

Are you ready? Here it is:Vote!

Stillman is a candidate for mayor in the soon-to-be-incorporated city of Holladay-Cottonwood. Even though her name's not going to be on the ballot in the city's Aug. 3 primary election (no primary is needed because there are only two mayoral candidates), she and the other candidates for both mayor and City Council are worried that summer vacations and the like will result in a miniscule turnout.

"We might be the only ones voting," she said.

The reason Holladay-Cottonwood's primary election isn't held the same date as every other city, on Oct. 5, is that it is governed by Utah's incorporation law, which mandates that a primary election be held within 75 days of the incorporation vote.

Voters approved incorporation May 4.

The general election date will be the same as other cities: Nov. 2.

Those who haven't registered to vote in the primary election can still do so Monday at Cottonwood Elementary School, 5205 S. Holladay Blvd., 8 a.m.-8 p.m., or at the county clerk's office, 2001 S. State, room S1100, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Absentee ballots may be cast at the clerk's office through Aug. 2. Call 468-3427 for details on absentee ballots by mail.

A meet-the-candidates night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Olympus Junior High School.

The candidates are:

Mayor: Vibert Kesler, Liane Stillman (no primary)

City Council District 1: Marjorie Smith, Shirley Cromar, Barry Miller, Lewis Mousley, Grant Orton, Michael Frei, Ken Zenger, Linda Roylance
