TREMONTON, Box Elder County (AP) -- Mayor Max Weese says city officials have not yet decided what they'll do with the $537,000 the city could get for its 51-year-old airport.
The Tremonton City Council voted last year to close the airport, citing safety concerns and a growing community that needs the 115 acres of land for other ventures. At least two parties, including Box Elder County, have expressed interest in sections of the airport, said City Manager Rich Woodworth. He would not name the second party that's interested.
The land is sandwiched between the Box Elder County Fairgrounds, a municipal golf course and Main Street. County commissioners have expressed interest in the land since the closure was announced.
Weese said the City Council has discussed extending the neighboring city-owned golf course. Woodworth said the council has also considered putting part of the money toward a large park.
