Kathleen Gubler Tolman, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father and to her mother on August 2, 1999 due to an automobile accident while traveling to Orem, Utah to preside over her daughter's wedding reception.
She was born to Clark J. and Maurine Kjar Gubler on November 4, 1944 in Oakland, California. She graduated from Orem High School in 1963 and served a mission in North Germany from 1965 to 1967. She obtained a B.S. degree at Brigham Young University followed by a Master's Degree in Art and German.While working a summer girls camp in New York, she met David O. Tolman. They were married in the Manti Temple for time and eternity on December 19, 1972. They moved to Princeton, New Jersey where her husband, David, obtained his Ph.D in the History of Science. They moved to Medford, New Jersey and then to Merchantville, New Jersey, where the family currently resides.
Kathleen taught art and German in the Moorestown School District. She was actively involved in school theater productions and also coordinated the Middle School yearbook for several years. She found happiness in the pursuit of all things creative and was noted for her excellence in art, drafting, interior design, upholstery, theater design, sewing and costuming. She has a great love of classical music and played the organ very well. She was best known however for her selflessness and compassion for those around her.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother and is survived by her father; her husband, David, of Merchantville, New Jersey; her four children: Mirian (John) Hatten, Durham, North Carolina; Margaret (Nathan) Hatten, Renton, Washington; Ruth and Benjamin C; two brothers: David Clark Gubler, St. George, Utah; and Ronald Kjar Gubler, Orem, Utah; one sister, Anne Gubler Golightly, Edina, MN; and one grandchild.
An informal memorial service will be held Saturday, August 7, 1999 at the Gubler home, 466 North 550 East, Orem, Utah from 7 to 9 p.m. If inclement weather: at the Vermont LDS Chapel, 400 North 400 East, Orem, Utah.
