Several local performing arts groups have announced their 1999-2000 seasons, including the Hale Center Theater Orem, Draper Historic Theatre, Springville's Villa Playhouse Theatre and Peery's Egyptian Theater in Ogden.

Nearly half of the Egyptian Theater's "Great Performances Series" is theater-oriented, along with a variety of jazz, dance and film offerings on its 20-event calendar.The Egyptian Theater lineup includes the return of actors Jim Jarrett and Tim Behrens in a pair of one-man shows, plus John Astin, Robert Wagner, Jill St. John, Chicago City Limits and jazz artist Art Farmer and his quintet.

Specific dates are:

-- Oct. 9, at both 3 and 7:30 p.m., "Lost Highway: The Music and Legend of Hank Williams," a musical revue which originated at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

-- Oct. 22: Salt Lake City's own acclaimed Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, the first event in the Egyptian's new "Utah Artisans" series.

-- Oct. 29: "McHomer: The Simpsons Do Macbeth," presented by actor/comedian Rick Miller.

-- Nov. 5-6: Chicago City Limits, the longest-running improv troupe in New York City.

-- Nov. 19: A screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary film, "A Great Day in Harlem," with an appearance by Art Farmer (one of the film's subjects) and his Art Farmer Quintet.

-- Nov. 26-27: There will be two screenings of James Cameron's blockbuster film, "Titanic," on Nov. 26 (2 and 7 p.m.), with a live concert the following evening by Gaelic Storm, a British group best known as "the party band" featured in the movie's third-class steerage party scene.

-- Dec. 2-3: The world premiere of Jim Jarrett's new one-man drama, "Sanford Meisner -- a Teacher," a tour de force about the legendary acting instructor. Jarrett performed last season in Leonard Nimoy's "Vincent: The Life Story of Vincent Van Gogh."

-- Jan. 15: The sizzling Louisiana sounds of Myrick "Freeze" Guillroy and Nouveau Zydeco, as part of a pre-Mardi Gras celebration in the main ballroom of the David Eccles Conference Center, adjacent to the Egyptian Theater.

-- Feb. 11: Utah country artist Brenn Hill, named as "rising star of the year" in 1997 by the Academy of Western Artists.

-- Feb. 19: Four Generations of Jazz, featuring Darol Anger, Johnny Frigo, Joe Kennedy Jr., Matt Glaser and Regina Carter.

-- Feb. 26: Utah classical guitarist Michael Lucarelli.

-- March 4: Behrens in another rendition of one of humorist Patrick McManus' works, "Pott's Luck."

-- March 11: The Utah premiere of the Mark Morris Dance Group.

-- March 17: Shakespeare's "King Lear," performed by the acclaimed Aquila Theatre Company of London.

-- March 18: Sophocles' classic "Oedipus the King," also by the Aquila Theatre Company.

-- April 1: Ballet d'Afrique Noire, presented by the Mandinka Epic,

-- April 28: John Astin's one-man show, "Edgar Allen Poe: Once Upon a Midnight."

-- May 12: The Gizmo Guys, a two-man troupe (Allan Jacobs and Barrett Felker), who combine comedy and juggling.

-- May 20: Robert Wagner and Jill St. John in A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters."

-- The Hale Center Theater Orem schedule for 2000 includes a mix of classic Broadway musicals and family comedies.

-- Feb. 18-March 27: Ruth and Nathan Hale's "The Other Side of Love."

-- March 31-May 15: "The Secret Garden."

-- May 19-June 26: Jack Sharkey's comedy, "M is for the Million."

-- June 30-Aug. 7: Lynn and Helen Root's "The Man With the Pointed Toes."

-- Aug. 11-Oct. 2: "My Fair Lady."

-- Oct. 6-Nov. 18: John Patrick's classic comedy, "The Curious Savage."

-- Nov. 24-Dec. 23: "A Christmas Carol" (not included as part of the season subscriptions).
