Installing bay windows in a home is always an attractive architectural feature. But what if the view outside the room is so spectacular that too much casing around these bay windows obstructs that view just enough to be distracting? Not to worry, There's a solution: curved glass.

Manufactured in various sizes, these fenestrations can be constructed to fit almost any radius wall. For those astute minds reading this and saying, "This ain't new," you're right. Though the curved glass idea seems new to this generation, it was actually created in the Victorian era. That fact makes this window even more exciting. Whether the construction is old and historical renovation is required, or brand new with contemporary theme, the curved glass nestles in quite well. These made-to-order windows are available as a single hung or double hung glass. With single hung, the curve of the wall-window is continuous, without obstructing the continuity of the architectural design. The advantage of a double hung window is the ability to open part of it allowing the air to flow through. The preference is up to the buyer.

The casing for the curved glass is available in bare wood for staining or primed for painting. Some manufacturers boast of incorporating weather-stripping around the top, bottom and sides for energy efficiency.

How do you treat these windows if a fabric covering is desired? Good question. There are curved rods that accommodate the curve in the wall.

A balloon or poof shade fits the bill well. The same curved rod idea is available for draw draperies if that is the preference.

Ideally the glass partition should be left unobstructed. If you've paid for a curved wall and then went to the trouble of specifying curved windows, show if all off. The second best thing is to just treat the top of the opening with a valance of some sort. Often, though, there is a need to cover the window completely at certain times of the day so luckily the curved rod comes to the rescue.

These window treatment suggestions work just as well for the bay and angled window wall, too. With the bay or angle, there is the option of mounting blinds of some sort within each bay or angle, whereas in the curved window the straight lines of the blind would hinder the circular continuity.

Either way, curved walls are beautiful, and it is nice to know that there are several options for the fenestration incorporated in those walls.
