Again we are rapidly becoming the next "victims" of our societal fears. The liberal press has played upon emotion to inform the public of the potential disasters at hand rather than outline all the safeguards that have been in place in preparation for that millennial moment. Without hesitation we are falling to sensationalism while exchanging logic for paranoia.
As schoolchildren learn the story of Chicken Little, they can all laugh at their elders who have forgotten the basic moral of the story. Sadly, they are composed of the "uninformed' who choose to run around and react to the emotionalism tied up in the yet-unknown while they speak in terms of doom and ultimate global disaster. When can we realize that the only Chicken Littles of our society are the typical "leaders" of our press such as ABC, NBC, CNN, to name a few? We have been under their hex for some time, and yet we swallow any and all of their doubts and fears without exception as we embrace their bylines as golden truths spoken by Plato or Socrates.
How is it that truth and reason always seems to play second fiddle while the facts suffer in silence? It seems to me that the knowledge of truth combats fear and shows the intelligence and wisdom of those who are in possession of it.
My New Year's wish is that we become a nation of people who are more proactive rather than reactive to any future event.
