Two dance companies and the Oratorio Society of Utah have announced auditions.

The Brigham Young University Theatre Ballet Youth Artists will hold auditions for dancers ages 12 to 18, on Wednesday, Jan. 5, in the Richards Building, Room 162.Auditions will run from 5-7 p.m. Audition fee is $10. Chosen dancers will attend class at BYU and are eligible to receive high school credit. The BYU Theatre Ballet Youth Artists will receive high-level intermediate and advanced training and experience.

Ballet West will hold auditions in Salt Lake City's Capitol Theatre on Sunday, March 26. Audition times are noon-2 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Dancers are asked to bring a photo and resume in addition to the $10 audition fee.

Auditions will be held in the Ballet West studios on the third floor.

Dancers who are not able to attend the auditions may send a photo, resume and a videotape to Ballet West, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101.

Dancers must call company manager David Tompkins at 801-323-6907 to reserve a place a the auditions or to ask further questions.

Ballet West has a height requirement of 5'4" to 5'8" for women and 5'10" to 6'2" for men. The company pays competitive union salary rates for a 39-week contract, beginning July 2000.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or have either a green card or an INS working visa.

The Oratorio Society of Utah is holding auditions for a boy soprano to sing the treble role in the premiere of "Symphony of Tears" by Jeff Manookian. The performance of this newly commissioned work will be April 30 as the opening concert of the Cathedral of Madeleine Festival of the Arts and Humanities.

Interested boy sopranos should mail, by no later than Jan. 10, a brief biography or resume listing musical experience to the society's artistic director: Doris Brunatti, 526 E. 12100 South, Draper, UT 84020.
