Kameron is a friendly, observant boy who likes listening to music and is good at memorizing song lyrics. His social worker says he would benefit from any kind of music or dance lessons.

Eight-year-old Kameron just finished an after-school program called ACES. The special program for children with behavioral disorders helped him a great deal. He also takes medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He is reading at age level. Math is his strongest subject.Due to abuse and neglect, Kameron has been in several types of out-of-home placements. He has made a lot of improvement lately, especially in controlling his negative behaviors, according to his social worker. He can be affectionate and cuddly with adults he trusts, though he still has a great deal of anger from past abuse and can be difficult at times. Individual and group therapy will need to continue to help him learn to trust others and express his feeling in more acceptable ways.

Kameron needs to be the youngest child in a two-parent family. Parents with some understanding of the effects of abuse and neglect on children's behavior and willingness to have him continue therapy is important. Financial assistance for medical care, therapy and adoption is available.

Editor's note: Each week the Deseret News profiles a special-needs child available for adoption through The Adoption Exchange, 1065 E. 3300 South. An estimated 35,000 children are considered "special needs" because they are from an ethnic minority, disabled, older or hard to place because several siblings must be placed together. Anyone interested in a child may call the exchange at 801-412-0200 or access the Web page kids@adoptex.org
