William Orrice Murdock, 85, formerly of Needham, Massachusetts and Windham, New Hampshire passed away Thursday December 30, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bill was born April 9, 1914 in Beaver, Utah, the eldest child of former United States Congressman and Senator Abe Murdock and Violet Yardley Murdock. Bill married Annis Blanche Crandall from Tooele, Utah on October 17, 1936. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in September 1965.He graduated from the University of Utah in 1937, where he was president of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, member of Skull & Bones and Owl & Key and later earned a law degree fromAmerican University, Washington, DC in 1941. He worked as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board where he rose from field attorney to Associate General Counsel in Washington, DC. In 1955 he organized and directed the Labor Relations Department in the District Agency of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston, Massachusetts and retired as Vice President in 1980. After retirement he practiced labor arbitration. He was presented the distinguished Cardinal Cushing award for excellence in Labor Relations. Bill was also an active member of the Boston Council of Christians and Jews.
He served faithfully in many auxiliary organizations and as a Bishop, High Councilor and Patriarch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States. Bill and Annis served a mission to the Connecticut, Hartford Mission in 1992. Bill was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed many activities with his family and friends. He was president of the New Hampshire Senior Golfers Association.
Bill ("Pater") is survived by his wife Annis; four children: Nancy (Dr. Robert) Larner, Balboa, CA; Judith Murdock Anderson, Manchester-by-the Sea, MA; Thomas (Janice) Murdock. Salt Lake City, UT; and Kathryn (David) Farnsworth, Logan, UT; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and sisters Mary (Hal) Christensen, Beaver, UT and Cinda (George) Sengstack, Bethesda, MD; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Riggs and Dan Murdock and sister Jane Jaremko.
Family graveside services will be Tuesday January 4, 2000 in Beaver, Utah. Funeral Directors. Larkin Mortuary, Salt Lake City, Utah.
