Our dear dad and grandpa, Kenneth E. Candland, passed quietly away on December 30, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah, while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Chester, San Pete County, Utah to David Harry Candland and Phebe Maiben Candland on January 26, 1907. He spent his entire childhood on the family farm in Chester. He married Adella Holman on June 5, 1929 in the Manti Temple. She passed away on December 12, 1979. He later married Persis Farr Heiner on January 10, 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away on October 10, 1997.Grandpa and Grandma (Adella) lived for many years on their own farm, just down the lane from Grandpa's childhood home. While on his farm, Grandpa was a dairyman and a turkey farmer who made the rest of his living out of a carpenter's tool box. Grandpa was always very proud of his deep San Pete roots. After many happy years, he and grandma moved to Salt Lake City, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and eventually for Zion's Bank.
Grandpa always had time to talk. He was a warm friend to all. He knew everyone and their family. He had a truly remarkable memory for names and family genealogy.
He was a valiant servant of the Lord for his entire life. He held many positions of service, including a long tenure as Bishop of the Chester Ward.
He was a kind and faithful patriarch to his family. He was a patient and loving counselor to those closest to him. He also loved to sing old songs to his grandchildren who were the light of his life.
We will miss you, grandpa, but we know the Heavens are rejoicing as you are reunited with your loved ones.
Surviving are two daughters, Kenetta "Kit" (Robert) Barton and Darlene Wasden. His daughter, Toinette "Toi" (Keith) Campbell preceded him in death. He also leaves a grateful legacy of 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Cottonwood Hospital for their long and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at Memorial Estates (3115 E. 7800 South) where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Interment to follow at Memorial Estates, Mountain View Cemetery.
