For the Jazz . . . Hornacek had his left thumb well-wrapped during practice Sunday, the Jazz's first formal workout since Thursday. He skipped practice Thursday to have his sprained and severely swollen thumb examined; X-rays showed no bone damage. Hornacek, the league's top free-throw shooter, has made 66 in a row from the line -- 31 shy of Micheal Williams' NBA record.
For the Nuggets . . . Denver has been off since 102-94 loss to Boston on Thursday. The Nuggets went 9-6 in December, their first winning month since December 1995 . . . LaFrentz is averaging 19.6 points and 8.6 rebounds over his last five games, and Mercer has scored 20 or more in five of his last seven games.
