Free S.L. Library programs for families begin tonight

A number of free Salt Lake City Library programs for families with young children begin Monday evening, Jan. 3.Book Baby is a language enrichment storytime for babies up to age 2 and their caregivers. Jammie Time is an entertaining evening storytime for families in which children are invited to wear pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed friend.

And Book Some Time With Your Kids is a fun evening of stories, books and activities.

Here's a complete schedule:

Jan. 3, 7 p.m. -- Jammie Time, Main Library, 209 E. 500 South.

Jan. 4, 7 p.m. -- Book Some Time With Your Kids, Day-Riverside Branch Library, 1575 W. 1000 North.

Jan. 5, two sessions, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. -- Book Baby, children's department, Main Library, 209 E. 500 South.

Jan. 5, 10 a.m. -- Book Baby, Day-Riverside Branch Library, 1575 W. 1000 North.

Jan. 13, 9:30 a.m. -- Book Baby, Anderson-Foothill Branch Library, 1135 S. 2100 East. Registration required. Call 524-8278.

Jan. 19, 10 a.m. -- Book Baby, Sprague Branch Library, 2131 S. 1100 East. Registration required.

Defensive driving courses offered monthly in Murray

Four-hour defensive driving courses are offered each month by the Utah Safety Council.

The courses, which consist of classroom instruction and focus on accident prevention, driving confidence, hazard awareness and improving driving skills, are taught at the Cedar Park Business Complex in Murray.

Drivers who successfully complete the course receive a 50-point reduction from their Utah driving record once during a three-year period. Individuals 55 and older may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course.

The cost is $25 per person or $8 for those 55 and older who are only desiring a reduction in their insurance rates. Call the council, 262-5400, Ext. 305, for more information.

Specialized Internet training scheduled at S.L. Library

Specialized training in use of the Internet is scheduled during January and February at the Salt Lake City Main Library, 209 E. 500 South.

"Untangling the Web" classes are planned to teach patrons to use the Internet effectively by exploring specific subject areas.

All classes will begin at 7 p.m. Registration is required. Call 524-8211.

"Finding a Job Using the World Wide Web" is scheduled Jan. 19, and "Advanced Searching on the World Wide Web" will be taught on Feb. 16.
