ST. GEORGE —Jason Lamar Brown has been bound over for trial on a charge of attempted murder in the wounding of a 15-year-old boy who authorities say was not the intended target.

The boy, who was shot in the buttocks on Oct. 18, was in front of the intended targets, Chief Deputy Washington County Attorney Paul Dame said.

Brown, 26, is charged with attempted murder and various drug charges.

Judge G. Rand Beacham ruled Thursday that the state has sufficient evidence for trial on all counts against Brown.

Beacham also ruled the state has sufficient evidence to try Rachel Edmiston, Brown's girlfriend, on drug possession charges.

During the evening of Oct. 18, four men were driving around St. George when they spotted a van containing some rival gang members, Dame said.

They followed the van to Brown's house, and some of the passengers ran inside to get Brown while two groups of people yelled at each other.

Witnesses said Brown came out of the house with a .25 caliber handgun and shot the 15-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the van.

Police detective Mike Applegate testified that Brown denied having a gun or any ammunition inside his house. Detective Richard Triplett testified he found the gun inside the toilet tank in the home.

Triplett said police also found a marijuana plant and drug paraphernalia.
