The Humane Society of Utah is gearing up for the holiday with a special "Home for the Holidays" adopt-a-thon Friday, Oct. 13, through Sunday, Oct. 15.
The shelter, 4242 S. 300 West, will be open for adoptions with extended hours, and there will also be music, children's entertainment and other events.
"Our goal is to adopt a minimum of 100 animals over the weekend," said Gene Baierschmidt, Humane Society executive director. "We're offering kittens at a special 'two-fur-one' price, and we have lots of those as well as other beautiful, loving, healthy animals who need someone to love them for the rest of their lives."
He said with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all coming up, now is the perfect time to introduce a new family member into a household.
The shelter will be open for adoptions this weekend from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
