WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan was listed in stable condition at Howard University Hospital Wednesday evening after successful surgery to treat complications resulting from radiation therapy.

Hospital officials had few details.

Farrakhan was released from Howard University Hospital in Washington in April 1999 after nine days of treatment that included minor surgery to correct rectal inflammation related to radiation treatment he had earlier for prostate cancer.

His doctors have said he is free of the cancer.
