State Auditor Auston Johnson remained in the hospital Wednesday recovering from a heart attack.
Johnson, 51, was feeling ill Tuesday before work and drove himself to Cottonwood Hospital, said Joe Christensen, state audit director. Doctors determined he'd had a mild heart attack and placed Johnson in the intensive-care unit for monitoring.
"He is doing very well," Christensen said.
The hospital declined to comment on his condition Wednesday.
Johnson, a Republican, was elected to a second four-year term earlier this month. He's expected to return to work as early as next week, Christensen said.
