Charles Willard Hansen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 28th, 2000 at his home in Sandy, Utah at the age of 83.
Charles was born February 24, 1917 in Logan, Utah the son of Charles Willard and Jennie Eliason Hansen.
He married Florence Lambert Peterson on October 26, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Charles spent his summers working on the John Ford Movies in Southern Utah in the 1930's while attending the University of Utah from which he graduated. He served for three years in the Japanese Hawaiian Mission, witnessing the attack on Pearl Harbor, then served in the European conflicts of the Second World War. He was one of the first exchange students to Sweden, He worked as Placement Director for the Salt Lake Community College. Following his retirement in 1982, he enjoyed traveling the world with his family. Charles loved his family and home, where each room bears reminders of him and his carpentry and artistic skills. Tennis was a major joy in his life. He was the champion of the Love 5 tennis tournament, in the last year his age group played. He had a great love of good books. He enjoyed gardening and was known for delicious carrots enjoyed all winter long. But most of all, he was known for his honesty, integrity and great sense of humor.
Charles was an active member of the LDS Church serving in numerous callings including, Host at Temple Square in Salt Lake.
He was preceded in death by four babies, a son and three daughters. He will be greatly missed by his surviving wife, Florence, son Chad, daughter-in-law JoLyn and six grandchildren, Marshal, Grant, Kandalyn, Bethany, Noelle and his sister Phoebe (Homer) Stringham; and nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt tank you to Margaret and Misty of Hospice and all of the family, friends and neighbors who loved, cared for and provi-ded invaluable service to the Hansen family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday December 1, 2000 at the Park Ward Chapel, 1050 East Galina Dr. (9820 S.), Sandy, Utah. Friends may call Thursday November 30, 6-8 p.m. Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 S. 1700 E., Sandy and Friday 9-9:45 a.m. Ward. Interment will be at Logan City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
