WEST JORDAN — Agents from the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit, along with SWAT team members from West Jordan, Sandy and Salt Lake City police, started rounding up people Thursday and Friday who may have been connected to the beating of a West Jordan man.
Arrest warrants were issued for nine people. One man was arrested this morning.
Three others were arrested early Thursday, said Lt. Bob Shober, West Jordan police.
Investigators were still looking Friday for the remaining five.
Even though they are not all in custody, four of the people have been charged with attempted murder and the other five with aggravated assault, Shober said.
Police say all of the suspects are known gang members.
According to court documents, the incident occurred during a party at the home of one of the suspects last weekend.
Clemente Perez, 27, had been drinking and grabbed a woman next to him, according to the charges filed in court.
The woman pushed Perez away and her pants ripped.
She allegedly grabbed a metal pipe and hit Perez twice, charges state.
A man who witnessed the incident went downstairs and told several others about the confrontation. Those men allegedly ran upstairs and beat Perez, charges state.
The people continued to beat Perez after he lost consciousness, the charges stated.
A cousin of one of the suspects later dropped off Perez at Jordan Valley Hospital.
Perez was in serious but stable condition this morning, said Shober.
