Reginald Hunsaker, 89, lifetime resident of the Bear River Valley passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Bear River Care Center, of causes incident to age.

He was born December 10, 1910, in Elwood, Utah, the 8th child of 13, the son of Lewis and Sarah Ellen Warner Hunsaker. He was a graduate of Bear River High School. He held an Associate Degree from Utah State University in Education. He served an LDS mission to England, his mother's homeland. He was active in the LDS Church, serving as a Bishop, a member of the South Bear River Stake Presidency, and other various positions. He was an active scouter and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, serving as District Chairman and Council Vice President.

He married Ruth Johnson in 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 1988. He married Valaine C. Austin in 1989. They have made their home in Elwood.

He was an excellent farmer, and was a pioneer in raising sugar beets in Raft River Idaho where he moved his farming operation in 1967. He was awarded the Sugar Beet Grower of the Year Award in 1980 by the Amalgamated Sugar Company.

He was a much-loved father of four sons and a daughter. He affected many lives with his goodness, generosity and example. His cheerful nature and "excellent" countenance were a trademark to his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Valaine Austin Hunsaker, Elwood; sons, Dr. David R. Hunsaker, and wife Pat of Prescott, Arizona; Steven L. Hunsaker and wife Rebecca of Tremonton; Jack M. Hunsaker and wife Bonita of Declo, Idaho; Robert W. Hunsaker and wife, Shirley of Phoenix, Arizona; and daughter, Susan H. Hepworth of Nibley; a brother, Lloyd R. Hunsaker of Logan; and a sister Marjorie H. Keller of Ogden; 23 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren, five great-granddaughters, and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Johnson Hunsaker, a son-in-law, Abel Hepworth, and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 4, 2000, 12 noon at the Tremonton South Stake Center, 1150 South Tremont Street. Family and friends may call Sun. Dec. 3rd from 4-6 p.m. and Mon., Dec. 4th from 10-11:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah. Interment in the Elwood Cemetery.
