NORTH SALT LAKE--<! > George William Simmons, 88, passed from this mortal life to join his beloved wife and son, Nov. 27, 2000.
He was born in Liberty, Idaho, March 14, 1912 to James William Simmons and Mary Ellen Hymas. He married Edith Bowen in Montpelier, Idaho, May 7, 1932. Their marriage was eter-nally sealed in the Logan LDS Temple September 21. 1951.
George was a very honest and good man. He loved life, and especially his sweet wife, family and many friends. George was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in many Ward and Stake callings including: counselor in Bishopric, High Priest group leader, home teacher and Scouting. After retiring as a building contractor, he served many years as a civic leader. He volunteered in many capacities including, black smithing and woodworking. He served in the Provo retirement community as well as the young people at Mountain View High School in Orem. He received much joy and also honorary recognition for exceptional service. Among the many tributes he received was the 75th Point of Light awarded to him by U.S. President George Bush for outstanding community service. While sharing his expertise, he became the neighborhood "fix-it" man in each place of residence, Montpelier, Idaho; Provo, Utah and North Salt Lake, Utah.
Just eight weeks ago his dear wife, Edith, of 68 1/2 years, preceded him in death. His son, Jim also passed away, January 29, 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou (Charles) Burgoyne; daughter-in-law, Vickie Grant, nine grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 97 year old sister, Emma, Camarillo, CA.
Funeral services will be held Monday Dec. 4, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Orchard Stake Center, 3599 S. Orchard Dr., Bountiful. Friends may call Sun. evening Dec. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E, and prior to services 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be at Centerville Memorial Park, 400 S 600 E, Centerville.
