I am so fed up with people missing the point. Mr. Ormand is right that "It is completely unethical, unfair and immoral for the people of this state to demand or receive something for which they are not willing to pay!" However, what he and the UEA don't seem to understand is that the accountability we are asking for is not necessarily from the teachers but from the administrators above them.
It is hard to swallow that the education system needs more money when we hear of tens of thousands of dollars thought to be intended for textbooks going to "cheerleader" uniforms and millions going to "redevelopment agencies"! That makes me angry. And then to have the teachers calling me unwilling to support them?
Teachers, you were just cheated out of millions of dollars that could have gone toward your classrooms and salaries. Do you get it? Frankly, I think most of you do, but your leadership needs another look.
I consider what is going on by the UEA and the few supportive militant teachers cowardly. You need to take aim at those who control your budgets to get their house in order. When that is done and a real proof is made for a "need" for more money, then let's talk.
