Office Depot Friday was named an official sponsor of the 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic teams and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
Office Depot will pay the cost of its sponsorship in cash and value-added services, but the amount was not disclosed.
Under terms of the agreement with the Olympic Properties of the United States, the joint marketing venture between the Salt Lake
Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games of 2002 and the U. S. Olympic Committee, Office Depot will be designated as the official office supply sponsor for SLOC and the USOC through 2004.
"No other event has the universal appeal of the Olympic Games, and that played an integral role in our decision to partner with the USOC and the Salt Lake Organizing Committee," said Bruce Nelson, CEO, Office Depot.
Mitt Romney, SLOC president and CEO, said, "It is through generous sponsors like Office Depot that we will be able to stage a successful Games. Our growing list of corporate sponsors will ensure the best possible field of play for the athletes."
Romney, ironically, is on the board of office supply rival Staples.
