Vera Amelia May Bocker Porter, age 86, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her loving family, November 29, 2000.
Born August 15, 1914 in Salt Lake City to Oscar Sovereign Bocker and Mary Beatrice May Brown. Vera married Russell Leon Porter, Sr. in Long Beach, CA., on July 7, 1933. The three children from their union are Russell Leon Porter, Jr., Nancy Lee May Porter (Daines) and James Bocker Porter (deceased). After being widowed in 1976, Vera married Reid Moffitt and spent many years with him before he passed away.
Vera worked as a nurse's aid, caring for newborns at LDS and Cottonwood Hospitals as well as the family of Dr. Edward and Elizabeth Jeppson. Babies were her greatest love and caring for them resulted in a lifetime service for others as well as her own grand and great-grandchildren. Through the years, she has been active in her LDS wards with a love for serving in Primary, senior group socials, and D.U.P.
She is survived by her son, Russell and wife Lorna Millard Porter, daughter Nancy and husband Sheridan Daines, 11 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, one surviving brother, Verlin Grant and wife June Spencer Bocker, sister-in-law Kathryn Bocker. Preceded in death by brothers Paul and Ted Bocker.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, Dec. 4, 2000 at the Cottonwood 1st Ward Chapel, 5913 So Highland Drive where friends may call from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment following at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 10600 S. 1700 E. Funeral Directors Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
