PAPEETE, Tahitic — As part of a weeklong 16th anniversary celebration of the Autonomy of the French Polynesia Territory, a 400-voice LDS Regional Choir delighted the crowds at the inauguration of the new administration building of the French Polynesia Presidency recently in Tahiti.
The choir performed the national and territorial anthems. Talks from the president of the government and the high commissioner were interspersed with other songs from the choir.
It was formed under the direction of Yvanna Tuairau with Bishop Thomas Hauata as director. The choir was composed of members from the five stakes in Papeete.
The members were proud to be a part of this ceremony showing their commitment to the social life of the Polynesian community, said John A. Matis, director of the Pacific Islands Area public affairs.
