A 29-year-old man has been charged with stealing a Salt Lake County Fire Department vehicle.

According to documents filed in 3rd District Court on Friday, the Salt Lake man took the Ford Explorer, which a deputy had parked on Fort Union Blvd. (7200 South), on Oct. 22. Two days later, a Salt Lake County sheriff 's deputy spotted the Explorer and pursued the stolen vehicle. Eventually, the man was forced into a ditch after striking a sheriff's car. After a short foot chase, the man was captured.

The charges also say that the man admitted to distributing the contents of the Explorer, which included fire department equipment, to his friends.
