Utah 73, Boise State 54
Kristina Andersen lit up Boise State for 16 points and the University of Utah women's basketball team rolled to its sixth win in as many games. Andersen was nearly perfect herself, making eight of her nine field goal attempts in Utah's 73-54 win over the Broncos.
Utah (6-0) led by just nine at the half but shot a torrid 60 percent field goal shooting in the second stanza to double its margin.
"Once again, we missed some easy shots early in the game and then seemed to loosen up and get things done in the second half," explained Utah coach Elaine Elliott. "We're still playing a lot of kids (12 vs. Boise State) and I think my substitution patterns disrupt things to a certain extent. We'll tighten up the rotation soon."
Also scoring in double figures for the Utes were Amy Ewert (13 points) and Kelsy Stireman (10 points). Stireman, who poured in 28 points in Utah's win over Pacific on Wednesday, was hot again this game, making five of six shots from the field. Ewert led Utah with five steals and Stireman dished off five assists.
BYU 74, GONZAGA 57: At Spokane, Stacy Jensen's last second heroics at the end of each half, lifted BYU's women's basketball team to a 74-57 victory over Gonzaga, Saturday.
Jensen's lay up and free-throw gave the visiting Cougars a 13-point advantage at the break and a similar three-point play with the clock running out at the end of the game sealed the victory, the fourth straight win for BYU and the third on the road.
All-American Erin Thorn led the Cougar team with 17 points and a season and career high nine rebounds, followed by 16 points and nine rebounds from Heather Chessman. Jensen had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the game.
The 4-1 Cougars play Arkansas on Monday before returning home for four games beginning Thursday, Dec. 7 against Northern Iowa.
SOUTHERN UTAH 59, UMKC 55: At Kansas City, Sarah Mortensen and Megan Woolston scored 15 points apiece to lead Southern Utah over UMKC in the T-Birds Mid-Continent Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
SUU finishes its two-game Mid-Con road swing this Monday night at Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla.
SAN JOSE ST. 71, WEBER ST. 64: Kris Clyder-Gardner topped all scorers with 23 points, but it wasn't enough to lift the WIldcats past the visiting Spartans.
