RIVERTON--<! > Max went home on his 86th birthday.
He was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Manti, UT to Axel and Luella Mackey Peterson. His life was filled with adventure and ser-vice to those he loved. He worked in the CCC's, served in the Navy in World War II, and spent many years working in mines and on oil rigs before he be-came a heavy-duty mechanic for the US Forest Service. He was shop foreman in McCall, Idaho, as well as Salt Lake. After 30 years with the USFS, he went to Fairbanks, AK for GSA for three years.
His marriage to Mildred Crowther was blessed with three children: Maxine, DelRita, and Ellis. Although Mildred and Max divorced, he always regretted not having more time with his children. He married Betty Butters who died in 1954. He then met and married Stella Kirk and lovingly raised her two daughters, Marval and Barbara.
Max was an expert fisherman and hunter. He loved the out-of-doors and always kept a beautiful yard. His example of honesty, integrity, and fairness will live forever in the lives of those who had the association and friendship. Max was a wonderful storyteller, and with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes, could recall names and dates and places with amazing accuracy until the very end. He was a member of the LDS Church whose missionaries he loved and supported.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Zerettia Peterson, and brother-in-law, Neil Larsen, as well as his children: Maxine and Wayne Carroll, DelRita and Thomas Heaps, Ellis and Merlene Peterson, Marval Haldeman and Barbara and Mel Springer. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many. He also had a great love for his nieces and nephews, who loved Uncle Max. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Stella, his brother Ivan, and his sister, Ada.
The best message Max ever delivered was the example of his life. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
