Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies will no longer have to anchor themselves to their desks when the wind blows.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday for the department's new Criminal Justice Administration Building, 3365 S. 900 West.

The building, which has been in use for several weeks, will be home to all of the department's investigation units, crime lab and dispatchers.

Sheriff Aaron Kennard said it's a great improvement from the old metro Hall of Justice on Salt Lake's Library Square, 450 South 300 E.

"For 35 years we've been living in a building that has been rocking back and forth on stilts," Kennard said.

Kennard will continue to have an office at the county government complex, 2001 S. State.

Salt Lake County's newly elected first mayor, Nancy Workman, was on hand to help Kennard dedicate the new building.
