MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A company identified as the source of ground beef recalled after an E. coli outbreak said no tests have been completed to determine whether its products are contaminated.
Carl Kuehne, chief executive of American Foods Group Inc., based in Green Bay, Wis., said Sunday that the company is cooperating with health officials who are trying to determine how 21 people were sickened by the bacteria.
"There has been no completed testing of the product in order to conclude that any product contains the E. coli" bacteria, Kuehne said in a news release. The company said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has not requested a recall of its products.
Cub Foods and its parent company, Supervalu, have recalled ground beef from stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago and Indianapolis after Minnesota health officials notified them about the E. coli cases there. Other stores involved in the recall include County Markets, Kowalski's, Jerry's and Driskill's, all of which get ground beef from Supervalu.
