SWIMMING: The 17th-ranked BYU men's swimming team stormed to a second-place showing while the women's team finished in seventh-place after day one of the three-day Speedo Cup, in Long Beach, Calif.
After day one, the BYU men's team has a score of 305.5, trailing No. 6 USC by 2.5 points, but ahead of third-place Hawaii by 11 points.
The women's team has 151 points, but trail No. 8 USC, who leads with 323 points.
DIVING: Sophomore All-American Aaron Russell won all three men's events at the 8th Annual BYU Diving Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Russell won the 3-meter board for the second consecutive year, Friday, with a score of 540.65. He then went on to sweep the competition Saturday, winning both the 1-meter and the platform events with scores of 349.75 and 282.05, respectively. Russell edged Michael Gowdy of Hawaii by less than one-point to win the platform event.
For the women, former BYU diver Rachelle Kunkel took first on the 1-meter board (295.30) Friday in the open-style format, where anyone can compete. Sophomore Kelli Einfeldt finished second on the 1-meter board (266.85) and third on the 3-meter board (465.70). Sarah Farr of Hawaii won both the 3-meter (533.70) and the platform (195.25) events Saturday. Junior Tessa Clark finished fourth on the 3-meter board (426.15) and was BYU's top finisher on the platform (153.02), finishing in fifth-place.
